Dr. Jacobson was an optometrist who practiced in Tracy for 30 years. Dr. Jacobson loved children and served on the Tracy Elementary School Board for 29 years from 1959 to 1988.
Dr. Jacobson grew up in New York City and started to play the violin at a very young age. Dr. Jacobson was a longtime concert master for the Stockton Symphony. He liked chamber music. Through the symphony, Dr. Jacobson made friends with many famous musicians from around the world. He brought some of them to Tracy to play concerts at several schools.
Dr. Jacobson served in the Armed Forces during World War II. He died in November 1990. His daughters gave the school his US flag to fly at our school on his birthday, March 8th.
Melville S. Jacobson School was dedicated in October 1989. It was the first school in Tracy to be built with Mello-Roos Funds.
